QUICK FACTS

  • The Lions finished atop the OUA West for the eighth straight year, while the Golden Hawks earned the sixth and final spot in the division for the third straight season.
  • Today's quarter-final match marks the third consecutive year these two teams have met in the playoffs. The Lions won the first meeting 1-0 and last year eliminated the Golden Hawks 5-0.
  • The Lions are ranked No. 1 in the CIS for the second straight week. They have been nationally ranked for 40 straight polls, dating back to Week 6 in 2010.
  • The Lions haven't lost a match to an OUA opponent since a 1-0 defeat to the McMaster Marauders on Oct. 5, 2013. The streak has stretched 24 games and a 21-0-3 mark. The Golden Hawks ended the regular season with points in three straight contests (2-0-1).
  • The Lions finished the regular season with a goal differential of +52, by far the best in the OUA. They've scored 59 goals on the year, 10 more than any other team in the conference, and allowed just seven, the fewest total. Laurier's goal differential was +7, with 40 goals scored and 33 allowed.
  • The winner of Sunday's match will advance to the OUA Final Four Championships at Tim Hortons Field in Hamilton next weekend. The Lions have reached the OUA Final Four Championships six times in the last seven years, winning two titles (2007, 2013) and qualifying for the national championships four times. The last time the Golden Hawks reached the semifinals was 2008, when they won the OUA banner.
