The York University Lions women's basketball team fell to the Lakehead Thunderwolves by a score of 62-46 in their season opener in Thunder Bay, Ont., on Saturday (Nov. 8).

The first half kept the two teams tight at 24-24. The Thunderwolves eventually succeeded in besting the opposition after halftime.

Lakehead's Jylisa Williams performed outstandingly, recording 25 points, eight rebounds, four assists and two steals.

Shauney Fischer (Wallaceburg, Ont.) achieved a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebound, and she also recorded two blocks and a steal.Â

The Lions' bench was efficient, contributing 18 points and 11 rebounds.
Nina Guzina (Etobicoke, Ont.) made eight baskets, two of them from three-point range.
Taylor Ross (Cookstown, Ont.) and
Emma Thompson (London, Ont.) made six and five rebounds, respectively.
Haley Bowie (Ancaster, Ont.) played 13 minutes to contribute two points and a rebound.

The Lions will take on the Waterloo Warriors for the home opener on Wednesday (Nov. 12) at Tait McKenzie Centre beginning at 6pm.Â
