The York University Lions women's basketball team lost 69-54 against the Western Mustangs on Friday (Jan. 30) in London, Ont.

Despite a double-double by
Courtney Osborne (Markham, Ont.), the Lions were unable to grasp the win on the road. The visiting Lions started strongly in the first quarter, leading 15-14. However, the Mustangs scored 18 points before halftime to lead at 32-25. At the third quarter, the hosts extended their lead to 51-40, and by the end of the game they added another 18 points to win by 15.

Western's Victoria Heine came off the bench to score a game-high of 21 points. Maddy Horst recorded 16 points, six rebounds, five assists and two steals.

Osborne scored the double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds, including converting 6-of-6 free-throws.
Jackie Koudys (Smithville, Ont.) scored 11 points and added an assist and a rebound.
Emma Thompson (London, Ont.) came off the bench and contributed 10 points, four rebounds and a steal in the 19 minutes of court time.

The Lions will be playing the No. 1 Windsor Lancers for the Shoot for the Cure campaign on Saturday (Jan. 31) in Windsor, Ont., beginning at 6pm.
