The York University Lions women's volleyball team opened up its season with a straight-set win over the Lakehead Thunderwolves on Saturday (Oct. 24) in Thunder Bay, Ont.

All three sets were won in convincing fashion by the Lions on Saturday, with York combining for 31 kills on the Thunderwolves. They won the first set 25-19, the second 25-18 and the third 25-18.

The kills were led by
Heather Setka (Winnipeg) who tallied 12,
Cadence Currie (Scarborough, Ont.) with five and
Sarah Williams (Oakville, Ont.) pitched in with four. Setka finished as the team's leading scorer with 13.5 points, adding a service ace and an assisted block to her total.

Keeva MacLeod (Ottawa) made her presence felt around the net as she totalled two blocks, and joining MacLeod in the block party was
Celeste Witzell (Kitchener, Ont.) with two of her own.

Fourth-year setter
Kirsten Dillon (Surrey, B.C.) had a game high 25 assists and eight digs.

The York Lions will look to improve to 2-0 on the season next Friday (Oct. 30) when they host the rival Ottawa Gee-Gees at the Tait McKenzie Centre beginning at 6pm.Â
