In their second road game of the regular season, the York University Lions women's basketball team finished with a 53-46 loss against the Nipissing Lakers in North Bay, Ont., on Friday night (Nov. 13).
It was a huge win for the Lakers as it was their first win as an OUA team, after just recently joining the conference last season.
In the first two quarters the Lions circulated the ball well between the team, but the scores were reflective of the hard work that the Lakers had put in. It was 11-8 at the end of the first, then 20-13 by the second, but the numbers didn't falter the Lions as they picked up the pace in the last two quarters.
In the second half the Lions added 33 points to the scoreboard, significantly improving in stats from the start of the game, but it wasn't enough to edge out the win against the Lakers.
Ishanaa Seupersadsingh (Markham, Ont.) led the team with 12 points.
Jackie Koudys (Smithville, Ont.) added seven points and
Katrina Collins-Samuels (Hamilton, Ont.) added six.
Nipissing's leading scorer was Claire Abbott, who poured in 24 points.
On Saturday (Nov. 14) the Lions will continue their run on the road and fac the Laurentian Voyageurs in Sudbury, Ont., beginning at 6pm.
