The York University Lions men's volleyball team fell to the host Ryerson Rams in four sets on Friday night (Nov. 20) at the Mattamy Athletic Centre in Toronto.
Â
The Rams took the first two sets with identical 25-18 wins each.
Â
Alexander Duncan-Thibault (Scarborough, Ont.) and
Arthur Szwarc (Toronto) were busy spiking balls into the Rams' end, but kills from Ryerson's point-leader Robert Wojcik and his teammates were too much for the Lions to handle.
Â
In the third set, however, the Lions were able to bounce back and come away with a 25-19 victory. They forced seven errors on the Rams' side and fired in 27 attacks.
Â
Nicolas Pirnat (Ottawa) got the game point of the set off of a kill set up by
Logan Mend (Naramata, B.C.) and the Lions fought their way back into the match.
Â
In the fourth and final set, the Rams were able to put the match to rest with a 25-19 score. Â
Â
Wojcik continued to dominate in kills and ended the game with 20 points to lead all players. Szwarc wasn't far behind with 19.5 points on 15 kills and 4.5 blocks, and Duncan-Thibault had 12 points with 10 kills and two blocks.
Â
Up next for the Lions is home game against the Toronto Varsity Blues (3-4) at 8pm on Sunday evening (Nov. 22).
