The York University Lions women's volleyball team came away 3-1 victory over the RMC Paladins on Friday night (Nov. 6) at the Tait McKenzie Centre.
Â
The Lions played from behind in two of the three sets but managed to claw their way back into each of them, due in part to the kill contributions of
Sarah Williams (Oakville, Ont.), who led the Lions with 14.
Â
In the end, the Lions won the first set 25-23 and dropped the second 25-18, but came back to take the last two sets by the same 25-23 scores.
Â
In addition,
Cadence Currie (Scarborough, Ont.) pitched in with nine and
Kayla Clennon (Stouffville, Ont.) found hardwood on seven spikes.
Â
Celeste Witzell (Kitchener, Ont.) had a game high four blocks, and two which came in crucial moments of the match. The first monster block from Witzell came in the third set where she sent back a potential go-ahead point for the Paladins; this was a turning point in the match as the Lions came roaring back and took the set. Witzell came up clutch in the fourth set as well, rejecting multiple Paladin attempted spikes, which set up her game clinching denial.
Â
Williams finished the match with a game-high 15.5 points and added 14 digs, while Currie had 11.5 points.
Â
The Lions record stands at 2-1 after Friday's victory over the Paladins, and the Lions will look to continue their strong start to season on Saturday (Nov. 7) with a game against the Queen's Gaels beginning at 6pm at the Tait McKenzie Centre.
