The York University Lions women's hockey team narrowly lost 1-0 to crosstown rivals, Ryerson Rams, on Thursday (Feb. 12) in Toronto, Ont.

The Lions drop to 10-10-3 and stand at 10th place with 23 points in the OUA Conference standings and have been eliminated from playoff contention. The Rams improved to a 13-10-1 record, standing at seventh place with 27 points.

Emma Rutherford scored the only goal of the game at 15:10 of the first period. The goal was assisted by Melissa Wronzberg and Kayla Karbonik.

Megan Lee (Orillia, Ont.) made the same number of stops as Ryerson goalie, Alex Armstrong, at 30 saves. The Lions managed to create more shots on target in the first two periods with a combined tally of 20 shots. However, the Rams pressured the Lions in the final period, managing 15 shots to the opposition's 10.

There were no penalties in the first two periods. Stephanie Chiste received the only penalty of the game at 12:12 for tripping in the third period.

The Lions will be playing their final game of the season on the road against the Toronto Varsity Blues on Friday (Feb. 13) beginning at 7:30pm.
