FORMER LIONS SIGN PRO DEALS WITH USL TEAMS

Two York University Lions men's soccer alumni signed pro deals with teams from the United Soccer League (USL). Star striker Michael Cox signed with the Orlando City B while midfielder Mark-Anthony Kaye signed with the Louisville City Football Club.

Cox (Calgary) is coming off an outstanding 2015 season with the Lions, where he led the OUA and CIS in scoring with 16 goals in as many regular season games. He followed up that stellar regular season by recording four goals in three OUA playoff games, helping the Lions reach the CIS championship tournament. There, he also recorded four goals in three games including a hat trick in the quarter-final round. His performance helped the Lions win the 2015 CIS championship while being named CIS championship tournament MVP in the process.

Prior to attending York, Cox spent two years with Portuguese Segunda Liga squad Atlético CP, Finland's Premier League team Kuopion Palloseura and North American Soccer League side FC Edmonton.

Kaye (Toronto) suited up with the Lions for the 2012 and 2013 seasons, where he helped the Lions to an OUA championship bronze medal and OUA championship in his two seasons. His 2012 rookie season saw him finish second on the team in scoring with seven goals and earn the OUA rookie of the year award. In 2013 Kaye tied for the team lead in scoring with 11 goals in 14 games and also scored five goals in six OUA playoff games, including the OUA championship-clinching goal in the final.

Kaye made 22 appearances for the USL's Toronto FC II in 2015 and previously played with the USL's Wilmington Hammerheads in 2014.
