On Friday night (Jan. 22) the York University women's volleyball team took a 3-1 loss against the Queen's Gaels at the Kingston Athletics and Recreation Centre.

The Gaels played a strong first set and were able to grab a 25-15 victory to start the game. Solid individual performances came from Caroline Livingston, who completed four kills, and Shannon Hopkins, who nailed in seven, including a kill to end the set.

The Lions were able to bounce back, however, and leveled the score to 1-1. Playing catch-up near the end of the second set,
Keeva MacLeod's (Ottawa) two kills narrowed the score to 23-23 and a pair of kills from
Kayla Clennon (Stouffville, Ont.) allowed the Lions take the set in a 26-24 win.

However as the game went on the Gaels were able to break free with two consecutive wins in the following sets. They won the third set 25-14 and the fourth set 25-20.

Overall, the Gaels Makayla Keith tallied up the most points of the game with 17, Hopkins gathered the most kills with 16, and Franzi Wilhelm had the most assists with 49.

Celeste Witzell (Kitchener, Ont.) totaled the highest set of points for the Lions with 11. She finished the game with six kills and four blocks.
Carley Flemmer (Delta, B.C.) also gave an outstanding performance with 32 digs, while
Kirsten Dillon (Surrey, B.C.) had 22 assists.

At 1pm on Saturday (Jan. 23), the OUA West's fifth-placed Lions (4-8) will continue their run in Kingston, Ont., and face off against the RMC Paladins. The match will be held at the Kingston Memorial Centre.
