The York University Lions men's basketball team were defeated by the nationally ranked No.3 Carleton Ravens by a score of 96-53 on Friday night (Jan. 29) in Ottawa.
The Ravens are currently 17-2 and are quickly moving up the CIS rankings, while the Lions have been plagued by the injury bug as of late and the starters were tested early and often.
The Ravens shot nearly 54% from the field on Friday night as their offense was running effectively throughout the game. The first half was controlled by the Ravens as they took a 47-24 lead into halftime.
Lions starting guard Jayden Fredrick (Scarborough, Ont.) scored a team high 13 points with three helpers paired with an impressive shooting performance from beyond the arc going 3-4 in the loss.
Four Ravens starters combined for 70 of Carleton's 93 total points, with guard Gavin Resch headlining the quartet scoring a game high 20 points with six made three pointers.
The second half was similar to the first as the Ravens continued to control the play holding the Lions to eight points in the final quarter.
The schedule does not get any easier as the 3-8 Lions will look to get back on the winning track Saturday night in Ottawa when they take on the 18-1 and CIS second ranked Gee-Gee's.
