LIONS HANG TOUGH BUT FALL TO RAVENS

The York University Lions women's basketball team fell to the Carleton Ravens by a score of 70-58 on Friday evening (Jan. 29) at the Ravens' Nest in Ottawa.

The Lions played the 7-4 Ravens tough for most of the game but the second quarter proved to be the difference as the Ravens outscored the Lions 24-13.

The Lions were led by Haley Bowie (Ancaster, Ont.) who shot 100% from downtown going 3-3, and scoring a team high 11 points. Sandra Nagowska (Peterborough, Ont.) was big off the bench for the Lions filling the stat sheet with 10 points, three steals, two assists and four rebounds.

The first quarter was a hard fought battle between both sides, with the Lions and Ravens exchanging buckets with the Ravens narrowly edging the Lions on the score board 13-12 after one.

The Ravens front court was a dominate force on Friday night as Elizabeth Leblanc and Heather Lindsay combined for 33 of the Ravens 70 total points. Lindsay was a beast on the boards throughout the game, as she brought down a game high 15 rebounds, including six on the offensive glass.

As the two sides broke the huddle for the second quarter the Ravens came out strong and Lions quickly fell behind.A boost of energy off the bench was created by Katrina Collins-Samuels (Hamilton) who contributed five points to go with a team high in rebounds with five and three steals.

The Lions seemed to be rejuvenated in the second half as they marched back to equal the scoring of the Ravens, but the come back came up short as the Lions eventually ran out of time resulting in a 70-58 final.

The Lions are now 2-9 on the season after Fridays loss, and will look to get back in the win column Saturday January 30th when they are in the nations capital to take on the Ottawa Gee-Gee's.
