On Jan. 31 (Sunday) the York University women's volleyball team fell 3-1 on the road to the OUA East Division third-placed Ottawa Gee-Gees at Montpetit Hall.

Currently the Lions are seated in fifth place of the OUA East standings with 10 points and a 5-9 record on the year.

The Gee-Gees struck first as they took the opening set with a narrow 25-19 score. With back-to-back kills from Logan Potter then a game point kill from Tatiana Kozbenko, Ottawa was able to grab the edge off the get-go.

In the second set the Lions continued to fight for a win, but the Gee-Gees were able to take the set in another close 25-22 win. The Lions were able to catch up from a six-point deficit midway through the action with kills from several different York players, but it was Gee-Gees Alix Durivage who was able to finalize the set with a game point kill.

The Lions bounced back and were able to take the third set with a 25-17 victory. The team maintained a steady lead throughout the set and scored five consecutive points towards the end of play, including a crucial kill from
Celeste Witzell (Kitchener, Ont.) and a service ace from
Kristen Dillon (Surrey, B.C.), that gave the Lions the win.

In the fourth set, the Gee-Gees were able to control the play and finished the game with a 25-12 score, thanks to a game point kill from Potter and multiple kills from Kaly Soro who totaled a game high of 22.5 points and 22 kills.

For the Lions,
Callie Giaccone (Ottawa) tallied the most points with 10 from 10 kills,
Heather Setka (Winnipeg) contributed nine points from seven kills, and
Sarah Williams (Oakville, Ont.) grabbed 7.5 points with five kills and eight digs.

Up next for the Lions is another road game against the Western Mustangs' at Alumni Hall in London, Ont. First serve will be at noon on Saturday, Feb. 6.
