The York University Lions women's hockey team was defeated by the Brock Badgers by a score of 3-1 at Canlan Ice Sports on Saturday afternoon (Oct. 22).
After a scoreless first period for both teams, all three Brock goals were scored in a nine-minute span in the second period.
Christina Leradi opened the scoring at 9:32 of the second frame to get the Badgers on the scoreboard first, and Lisa Buratynski found the back of the net exactly three minutes later for a 2-0 advantage.
Leradi scored her second of the game with less than two minutes left in the second period to open up a 3-0 lead. Cara Sayles earned an assist on each of the three goals.
York second-year forward
Erin Locke (Toronto) scored at 13:19 of the third period to put the Lions on the board, but that was as close as they would get.
Christina Chin (Richmond Hill, Ont.) and
Tegan Duncan (Oakville, Ont.) earned the assists on the play.
Rookie goaltender
Lauren Dubie (London, Ont.) made 16 saves while her counterpart, Stephanie Loukes, was credited with 34 saves.
The Lions fell to 1-0-2-0 with the loss, while the Badgers improved to 1-1-1-1.
The Lions will be back in action again on Sunday (Oct. 23) when the return to home ice at Canlan Ice Sports to face the Ryerson Rams in a game beginning at 2pm.
