For the second time in four days, the York University Lions field hockey team earned a draw with the undefeated and OUA-leading Guelph Gryphons, this time picking up a 1-1 result in Guelph, Ont., on Wednesday night (Oct. 5).
The two squads also played to a 2-2 tie on Saturday in Kingston, Ont. The result gave the Lions an important point in the OUA standings and they are currently in third place with a 4-1-2 record. The Gryphons, meanwhile, have yet to lose this season and are now 7-0-2 and atop the conference.
Wednesday's game played out in similar fashion to their previous one, with the Gryphons pulling ahead first and the Lions coming back to tie. Guelph got on the board in the 31
st minute on a goal by Alexa Corrado and carried the 1-0 lead into halftime, but the Lions responded in the 55
th minute on a goal by
Michelle Per (Port Moody, B.C.) to salvage the point.
Per is now tied for fifth in OUA scoring with five goals on the season.
The Lions will continue their busy week on Saturday (Oct. 8) when they travel to Waterloo, Ont., to face the Warriors in a game beginning at 10:45am. They will return home for a pair of games at Alumni Field the following day against the McGill Martlets at 9am and the Queen's Gaels at 2:15pm.
