Alex Duncan-Thibault scored a remarkable 30 points to lead the York University Lions men's volleyball team to a thrilling 3-2 victory over the rival Toronto Varsity Blues at the Goldring Centre on Sunday afternoon (Nov. 13).
 
The two squads traded sets throughout the match. The first set was the most lopsided, with the Lions taking it 25-18, but the Blues came back to win the second 25-21. The Lions took the third and the Blues came back to take the fourth by matching 25-23 scores, and then the Lions finally put it away in the fifth at 15-10.
 
Duncan-Thibault (Scarborough, Ont.) earned his match-high 30 points on 20 kills, nine solo blocks and one service ace, and he also added six digs and one assist.
 
Also having a big game was Spencer Kingzett (Penticton, B.C.), who put up 19 points, all on kills, and added eight digs.
 
Logan Mend (Naramata, B.C.) finished with 53 assists and Jules Muhawe (Orleans, Ont.) had 18 digs.
 
William Colucci led all Blues in scoring with 29 points on 27 kills and two blocks.
 
Sunday's win was York's second in a row and they improved to 2-2 in the OUA East standings. They will continue their season next weekend when they travel to Peterborough, Ont., to face the conference's newest team in the Trent Excalibur, who joined the OUA this season. The match will be played on Saturday evening (Nov. 19) at 8pm.
