The York University Lions men's volleyball team was swept in straight sets by the No. 3 nationally-ranked McMaster Marauders in their first road game of the season on Saturday night (Nov. 5) in Hamilton, Ont.
Â
In the opening set the Lions would give their best efforts to ease the powerful McMaster attack. The Lions were only able to muster five kills in the first set compared to McMaster's 11 and the set ended in a final score of 25-15.
Â
The second would turn out to be the closest the Lions would get to shake up the Marauders. In the set the kill tally for the Lions was seven, improving on their five from the first set.
Spencer Kingzett (Penticton, B.C.) and
Alex Duncan-Thibault (Scarborough, Ont.) led the team in kills with six apiece. The set ended with a final score of 25-20.
Â
In the third and final set of the match the Lions would give everything they had left in the tank to throw at the Marauders. Unfortunately McMaster would be able to fend off York and end the game. The final score of the set was 25-18 in favor of the Marauders.
Â
With the loss the Lions now move to 0-2 on the season. Their next game will take place on Saturday (Nov. 12) when they travel to Mattamy Athletic Centre at 8pm to take on the Ryerson Rams. They will return home on Saturday, Nov. 26 when they face off against the Queen's Gaels. Â Â
