The York University Lions women's basketball team was defeated by the OUA East leader the Western Mustangs by a score of 93-47 on Saturday evening (Feb.13) at The Tait Mackenzie Centre.
The Mustangs have suffered only one defeat in nearly a month of action, going nine and one down the stretch. On Saturday evening the post play by the Mustang big's caused havoc down low for the Lions interior defense, as Alex Van Heeswyk led the charge with 14 points and nine rebounds.
The perimeter was contained by a superb effort from
Sandra Nagowska (Peterborough, Ont.) who was seen all game crashing the deck for loose balls, and locking down the OUA's top scorer Mackenzie Puklicz. Nagowska finished Saturdays match racking up an impressive stat line of 11 points, four rebounds and two assists. Nagowska and the Lions held Puklics to 15 points on Saturday, her season average is 19.1.
The Lions have now fallen to 2-13 on the season and are currently on a nine game slide. The Western Mustangs after their win have improved to 13-4 and will be a dangerous threat come playoffs. The Lions will look to get back on the winning track February 19
th when they travel to Sault Ste. Marie to take on the 1-19 Algoma Thunderbirds.
