The York University Lions men's and women's tennis teams will begin the 2016 OUA season at home when they take on the Western Mustangs on Sunday, Sept. 18 at 12:00pm.
 
The Mustangs will be the Lions only opponents on the OUA's opening weekend, but they'll face a busy next two weeks for the remaining matches on the OUA's regular season schedule. The Lions will stay at home the following weekend and take on the Montreal Carabins, Toronto Varsity Blues and Carleton Ravens on consecutive days from Sept. (23-25).
 
A budding rivalry seems to be developing on the women's side with Carabins, as the two teams have finished as the top two teams in the OUA championships the last two seasons. In 2014, the Lions won the OUA women's title with the Carabins finishing in second place, while last year the Carabins upset the undefeated Lions in the OUA final.
 
2016 OUA Tennis Schedule
 
The Lions will finish out the 2016 regular season schedule by hosting the McGill Redmen/Martlets on Friday, Sept. 30, before travelling to Waterloo to take on the Warriors on Saturday, Oct. 1, and Hamilton to battle the McMaster Marauders on Sunday, Oct. 2.
 
The 2016 OUA championships will be hosted at the University of Western on Oct. 14-16. Prior to the OUA season beginning the Canadian University Tennis Championships will take place at Uniprix Stadium in Montreal from July 29-31. The Lions women's team is the defending champion having bested the University of Alberta Pandas 4-1 in the final.
