LIONS SPLIT OPENING GAMES AGAINST QUEEN'S AND TORONTO

The York University Lions women's field hockey team split wins this weekend, taking the victory on Saturday (Sept. 17) against the Queen's Gaels by a score of 1-0. The team's Sunday matchup against the University of Toronto proved less successful as they fell to the Varsity Blues by a score of 2-1. Both games took place in Guelph, Ont.

In the first game of the Lions' road trip the stick of Michelle Per (Port Moody, B.C.) was on display as she scored the only goal of the match, pushing York past Queen's. Sunday's matchup against the Blues saw first year Toronto native Kyra McKinnon score an unassisted goal for York's only major of the match.

The University of Toronto out-leveraged the Lions with their two-second half goals, scored by Lauren Sudac and Megan Johansen.

With a record of 1-1 the Lions are sitting in the middle of the competitive OUA pack in fourth place. York's victory over Queen's drops the Gaels to last place in the OUA standings with a record of 0-3, while the Blues began the season undefeated with a 2-0 record.

The Lions next test will come at the hands of the Waterloo Warriors next Saturday (Sept. 24). Face-off is at 10:45am at the University of Toronto. The Lions will return home to take on the McGill Martlets on Sunday, Oct. 9 at Alumni Field.
