Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The York University Lions field hockey team continued its strong play this season with two wins over the weekend when they defeated the Waterloo Warriors 4-0 on Saturday (Sept. 24) and the Western Mustangs 1-0 on Sunday (Sept. 25).
 
Their game against the Warriors was full of offence with four different players getting on the scoresheet for York. All of the goals came in the first half starting with Michelle Per (Port Moody, B.C.) just three minutes into the contest, followed by Ravneet Kalkat (Mississauga, Ont.) in the 10^th minute, Sydney McFaul (Coquitlam, B.C.) in the 23^rd minute and finally capped off by Mikhaela Slavin (Pickering, Ont.) just before the end of the first half.
 
The Lions offence was far too much for the Warriors to contain and gave the Lions great momentum moving into their final game of the weekend against the Mustangs.
 
The second of York's two wins did not show quite the same offensive spark that they are capable of but was still enough to push them to victory. The game-winning goal came by the stick of Shanella Fernando (Markham, Ont.) in the first half of the game. After Fernando's goal the Lions defence held strong until the clock expired.
 
With the Lions' two wins on the weekend they now move to 3-1 on the season and hold the third spot in the OUA standings with nine points.
 
The Lions' next game will be on Saturday (Oct. 1) when they face the Guelph Gryphons at 12:30pm in Kingston, Ont. York will return home on Sunday, Oct. 9 when they play the McGill Martlets at 9am at Alumni Field.
