LIONS EARN PAIR OF DRAWS ON THE ROAD AGAINST WINDSOR AND WESTERN

The No. 3 nationally ranked York University Lions women's soccer team faced off against the Windsor Lancers on Saturday (Sept. 24) and the Western Mustangs on Sunday (Sept. 25), with both games ending in a tie. Saturday's ended with a final score of 1-1 and Sunday had a 0-0 final.

In the first contest of the weekend, the Lions were facing adversity early in the game when the Lancers scored the first goal of the match in the 49th minute courtesy of midfielder Abby Hunt (Macclesfield, England).

After falling behind, rookie midfielder Stephanie Lamanna (Pickering, Ont.) made her way onto the score sheet with an unassisted goal in the 78th minute to earn a point in the match.

Sunday's game proved to be a defensive struggle as fourth-year goalkeeper Taylor Grant (Brampton, Ont.) kept the door shut with four saves against the Mustangs. The offence was unable to find the back of the net, however, and the contest ended in a scoreless draw.

The Lions two ties help them remain undefeated with a record of 6-0-3 and keep them at the top of the OUA West standings with 21 points. Both Windsor and Western now have a record of 5-0-4 with 19 points and are on the hunt for the top spot from the Lions.

The Lions' next game will take place on Friday (Sept. 30) when they take on the Waterloo Warriors in Waterloo, Ont., at 6pm. York will return home from their road stretch on Wednesday, Oct. 12 when the Guelph Gryphons come to Alumni Field to challenge the undefeated Lions.
