The No. 1 nationally-ranked York University Lions men's soccer team played back-to-back games this weekend. Saturdays match took place at Alumni Field against the Windsor Lancers and ended with a score of 0-0, while Sunday's match-up involved the Western Mustangs at Mustang Field and also ended in a tie with a score of 1-1.
Saturday's matchup against the Lancers saw another standout defensive performance from goalkeeper
Daniel Gosciniak (Mississauga, Ont.), refused all three Lancer shot attempts on goal.
Sunday's contest against the Mustangs proved more offensive. The Lions struck first blood by the foot of
Jonathon Lao (Unionville, Ont.) with an unassisted goal in the 25
th minute. Lao now has three goals on the season.
The Lancers tied it up less than 10 minutes later for a 1-1 tie at the half, and the game would finish with the same score as neither team could get the go-ahead goal after the break.
With the two ties the Lions remain undefeated with a 7-0-2 record and continue to hold the top spot in the OUA West standings. Windsor moves to 3-4-2 on the season and sixth in the OUA West while Western sits at 4-2-3 with the fourth-place spot.
The Lions' next opponent will be the Waterloo Warriors when the Lions travel to Waterloo, Ont., on Friday (Sept. 30). The Warriors will look to get their third win of the season while the Wednesday, Oct. 12 when they take on the Guelph Gryphons at Alumni Stadium.
