The York University Lions women's basketball team was defeated by a score of 81-40 by the No. 1 nationally ranked McMaster Marauders and Burridge Gymnasium in Hamilton, Ont., on Friday evening.
Â
Both
Sandra Nagowska (Peterborough, Ont.) and
Megan MacLeod (Niagara, Ont.) reached double digits in scoring in the game to lead the Lions. The loss drops them to 2-9 on the season, while the Marauders are now 11-1.
Â
In the first half the Marauders outscored the Lions 49-19. This lopsided score was attributed to McMaster's higher field goal percentage. The Marauders shot 38.5% while the Lions shot only 24.2%.
Â
A hard fought second half would not yield a different result as the Lions were once again outscored, this time by a score of 32-21. However, through the four quarters of the game Nagowska would record 11 points, five rebounds and two assists in 28 minutes of play, while MacLeod would do some damage of her own with her 10 points, one rebound and one assist. MacLeod was 4-7 in the game from the charity stripe.
Â
The Lions will look to get back into the win column in their next game, which will take place on Saturday when York will take on the Brock Badgers at Bob Davis Gymnasium in St. Catharines, Ont., beginning at 6pm.
