York University Lions sophomore forward
Brandon Ramirez put up a huge double-double with 31 points and 15 rebounds in an 83-78 loss to the Windsor Lancers in their contest at the St. Denis Centre in Windsor, Ont.
Â
Ramirez (Scarborough, Ont.) shot 13-of-19 from the floor and had five offensive rebounds as part of his count, but it was not enough to top the Lancers.
Â
After falling behind 24-10 in the first quarter and trailing 64-48 after three, the Lions staged a furious comeback in the fourth and closed the score to within four with 11 seconds remaining, but they ran out of time before they could catch the Lancers.
Â
Jayden Frederick (Scarborough, Ont.) had another big night with 19 points and six rebounds, the only other Lion to reach double digits in scoring.
Â
The Lancers had four players score 13 or more points, including Mike Rocca's team-leading 21.
Â
The loss dropped the Lions' record to 2-5 on the year, while the Lancers improved to 5-4.
Â
The Lions will be back in action again on Saturday night when they travel to London, Ont., to face the Western Mustangs in a game that tips off at 8pm.
