Game Recap: Men's Hockey |

LIONS STAY UNDEFEATED WITH WIN OVER RIDGEBACKS

The York University Lions men's hockey team extended its season-opening undefeated streak to three games on Friday night with a 3-1 victory over the visiting UOIT Ridgebacks at Canlan Ice Sports.

The Lions are a perfect 3-0 and sit atop the OUA West standings, while their OUA East counterparts fell to 1-2 with the loss.

The Lions opened the scoring at 12:30 of the first period with a power play goal by Josh LaFrance, and they added to their lead less than five minutes later when Kyle Campbell scored his second of the season. The score sat at 2-0 after the opening 20 minutes.

The Lions wasted little time extending their lead early in the second as Stefano Pezzetta found the back of the net just five minutes into the frame to make it 3-0.

The Ridgebacks finally got on the scoreboard late in the period with Brennan Roy's tally on a power play, but that's as close as they would get.

After an even first two periods, UOIT was all over York in the third, outshooting them 14-1 in the final 20 minutes. But reigning OUA all-star and U SPORTS all-Canadian goaltender Mack Shields stood tall to keep the puck out of the net and preserve the win. He finished with 35 saves of the 36 shots he faced, while his counterpart at the other end, Tyson Teichmann, made 17 stops on 20 shots.

The Lions will look to stay perfect on the year when they return to the ice on Saturday night to take on the RMC Paladins. Puck drop is set for 7pm at Canlan Ice Sports.
