VANNUCCI SCORES TWICE IN VICTORY OVER PALADINS

Colton Vannucci scored a pair of goals to lead the York University Lions men's hockey team to a 4-1 victory over the RMC Paladins in their Saturday-night affair at Canlan Ice Sports.

The fourth-year forward netted the first two goals of the game, the opening tally at 12:47 of the first period and the next at 6:22 of the second. His two goals were the only two tallies of the opening 40 minutes of play.

Morgan Messenger earned an assist on each goal, while Jack Goranson and Nick Zottl were also credited with assists on the goals.

The Paladins finally got on the board at 4:20 of the third period on a power play goal by Bruce Hornbrook to cut their deficit to 2-1, and they were back on the power play again 90 seconds later. This time, however, it was the Lions who got on the scoreboard with a short-handed goal by Scott Feser that restored the Lions' two-goal lead.

The score would remain that way until late in the frame, when Kyle Campbell fired the puck into an empty net to round out the scoring.

Alex Fotinos got the start in net and was impressive, turning aside 26 of the 27 shots he faced. His RMC counterpart, Daniel Vautour, stopped 31 shots and allowed three goals.

The Lions remain perfect on the season with a 4-0 record and are now the only undefeated team in the OUA. They will travel downtown on Friday night to face the Toronto Varsity Blues in a game beginning at 7pm, and they will then return home on Saturday night for a huge match-up against the Ryerson Rams, last year's OUA West Division champs.
