The York University Lions women's hockey team travelled to Oshawa, Ont., on Saturday to meet the UOIT Ridgebacks at Campus Ice Centre. The Lions played hard, keeping the score 1-1 to the end of the third period, but in the end just couldn't keep the Ridgebacks from scoring in overtime in a 2-1 loss.
The game remained 0-0 until the third period, when both teams scored one goal each before heading into overtime. The Lions' goal came from
Kelsey McHolm and was assisted by
Brooke Anderson and
Taylor Davison.
The Ridgebacks' goal was scored by Mia Rogers, and was assisted by Nicole Augello and Mariah Wilson. Wilson – assisted by Kassidy Nauboris and Jillian Banes – scored for the Ridgebacks in overtime.
The Lions will head to Kingston, Ont., on Sunday to take on the Queen's Gaels at 2:30pm. The Gaels are currently leading the OUA with 10 points. The Lions will return to home ice on Saturday, Nov. 4 to take on the Laurier Golden Hawks, who sit directly above the Lions in the OUA standings. Game time is at 2pm.
