Game Recap: Women's Hockey |

LIONS FALL TO FIRST-PLACE GAELS ON THE ROAD

The York University Lions women's hockey team suffered a 4-1 defeat at the hands of the first-place Queen's Gaels on Sunday afternoon in Kingston, Ont.

The Gaels came out flying in the first period, outshooting the Lions 17-6. But rookie goaltender Roxanne Kis was up to the task, stopping all 17 shots to keep the game scoreless at the first intermission.

The Gaels finally opened the scoring at 8:20 of the second period on a power play marker by Addi Halladay that was assisted by Micaela Smith. Two minutes later they tallied again, this time by Bryce Desa with an assist to Taylor Hicks.

The two-goal advantage was short-lived as Erin Locke scored her first of the season on a power play just two minutes after Desa's goal. Tayler Murphy was credited with the assist.

That was as close as the Lions would get, however, as Desa tallied her second of the day on another power play at 3:30 of the third period, and Jessica Wakefield added an empty netter at 18:36 to round out the scoring.

Kis finished with 29 saves on the 32 shots she faced, while Mackenzy Arsenault stopped 26 of 27 to earn the win in net.

The Lions are now 0-0-4-1 on the season and will go for their first win next weekend when they return home for a pair of games at Canlan Ice Sports, beginning with a contest against the Laurier Golden Hawks on Saturday at 2pm.
