The York University Lions women's hockey team took on the visiting Laurier Golden Hawks Saturday in some home game action. The Lions defeated the Golden Hawks 2-0 for their first win of the season.
Â
The first period was jam packed with outstanding offensive plays by both teams. Unfortunately, the opposing team's defence was just as strong, and the first period ended with the puck never seeing the inside of a net.
Â
The Lions and Golden Hawks through the second period with the same intensity. The battle for who would score the first goal of the game came to an end at 15:16 when York's second-year forward
Kelsey McHolm buried the puck in the back of the Golden Hawks' net. McHolm was assisted by
Chelsea Tucker.
Â
At the end of the second period, the Lions had a 1-0 lead over the Hawks.
Â
The game began the way it started, with ferocious playing on both sides, but not the results either team was looking for. With only 10 seconds left in the third period and Laurier's goaltender pulled,
Cynthia St. Cyr added another goal for the Lions, allowing the Lions to finish with a 2-0 victory over the Hawks. Cyr was assisted by
Avery Reeves and
Jenna Gray.
Â
The Lions play at Canlan Ice Sports again Sunday, Nov. 5. They will be looking to add another win, this time over the Waterloo Warriors. Puck drop is at 2pm.
