LIONS WINNING STREAK ENDED BY MUSTANGS

The York University Lions women's basketball team saw the end of their three-game winning streak Friday when they fell just behind the Western Mustangs 73-67. This was the Lions first game back at home court after four games on the road.

The Lions got off to an early lead thanks to points from Katrina Collins-Samuels, Lauren Golding, and Lindsay Shotbolt, putting them up to a seven-point lead before the Mustangs sank their first basket of the game. This lead was short lived, and the first quarter quickly turned into a neck-in-neck battle. The Lions had a small lead at the end of the quarter at 15-14.

Following the break, the Lions regained some of their earlier momentum and were able to score seven points within the first three minutes. The Lions showed no signs of slowing down and had a big lead at halftime, where the score sat at 34-25.

The Lions continued to hold onto this lead in the third quarter, which ended at 56-46. However, in the final quarter, the lead began to deteriorate and both teams found themselves neck-in-neck once again. The Mustangs were able to surpass the Lions in the final two minutes of play and claimed the victory.

The Lions fall to a 4-4 season record, while the Mustangs' win improves their record to the same 4-4 mark.

Leading the points and rebounds for the Lions was Shotbolt with 19 points and 15 rebounds. Chante Clarke earned an impressive 16 points for the Lions. The top scorer for the Western Mustangs was Mackenzie Puklicz with 29 points.

The Lions are back in action at the Tait McKenzie Centre on Saturday, Nov. 25 at 6pm. They will take on the Windsor Lancers, who are currently 5-2 in the regular season.
