The York University Lions men's basketball team played a tight game against the Windsor Lancers on Saturday night, ultimately falling by four points in a 65-61 loss to the visitors at the Tait McKenzie Centre.

The Lions raced out to a 20-12 lead after the first quarter of play, but the Lancers returned the favour in the second, outscoring the Lions 20-16 to cut the deficit to just four. The Lions led 36-32 at the half.

The third quarter was a much tighter affair in which the Lancers again cut into the Lions' lead, winning the frame 15-13 to make the score 49-47 in favour of the Lions heading into the final quarter.

The Lancers finally took the lead with 7:30 remaining on a Mike Rocca three-pointer that made the score 52-51, and from there the two teams traded the lead back and forth. Trailing by two points with 17 seconds remaining, the Lions had a chance to tie the score or take the lead but turned the ball over. After Rocca added a pair of free throws to extend Windsor's lead to four, the Lions had two three-point attempts in the final seconds but could not get the shots to drop.

Prince Kamunga finished with a team-high 18 points and added three rebounds, and
Gene Spagnuolo had 17 points, five rebounds and two assists.

Windsor's leading scorer was Rocca, who finished with a double-double of 23 points and 14 rebounds.

The Lions slipped to 2-7 with the loss and will wrap up the fall portion of their schedule with a game against the OUA East rival Queen's Gaels in Kingston, Ont., on Wednesday night beginning at 8pm.
