LIONS PICK UP FIRST WIN WITH VICTORY OVER BADGERS

The York University Lions women's basketball team earned its first victory of the season on Friday night with a 55-46 victory over the Brock Badgers at the Tait McKenzie Centre.

Lindsay Shotbolt, a fifth-year forward in her debut season with the Lions, was tremendous throughout the contest and finished with 23 points, seven rebounds, four steals and one assist to lead all players in scoring.

The Lions came out flying and scored the first four points of the game, ultimately building a 17-10 lead after the first quarter of play. They grew their advantage to as many as 10 in the second quarter, at 25-15, before the Badgers began chipping away at the deficit and ultimately closed it to 25-23 at the end of the half.

Midway through the third quarter the Badgers regained the lead again, at 32-31, and the two teams stayed within three points of each other until the end of the frame, when the Lions maintained their two-point advantage at 41-39. From there, the Lions showed tremendous play down the stretch and outscored the Badgers 14-7 in the final quarter to secure the victory.

In addition to Shotbolt, Megan MacLeod had a strong game with 13 points and a team-high eight rebounds, including four on the offensive glass.

Brock's leading scorer was Baelie Campbell with 20 points and she also added three rebounds.

The Lions improved to 1-1 with the win, while the Badgers dropped to 2-1 with the loss.

The Lions will return to home court for another game this weekend when they welcome the No. 5 nationally-ranked McMaster Marauders to the Tait McKenzie Centre on Saturday night beginning at 6pm.
