LIONS CLAIM STRONG WIN ON SATURDAY AGAINST MCMASTER

The York University Lions men's basketball team took on the McMaster Marauders Saturday in the second part of their doubleheader weekend and defeated the Marauders for their second win of the season.

The Lions wasted no time letting the Marauders know whose court they were playing on. The Lions stormed ahead in the first quarter with outstanding offensive plays. They led over the Marauders 30-25 at the end of the first quarter. In the second quarter, the Lions showed no signs of slowing down and continued to extend their lead. The Lions headed into halftime with a 14-point lead over the Marauders, at 50-36.

The Lions lost some steam in the third quarter which allowed the Marauders to close the gap in the score. The third quarter finished with 66-60 for the Lions. The Lions regained their earlier momentum, and were able to prevent the Marauders from scoring at all in the fourth frame. The Lions scored 11 points in the fourth to claim a 77-66 victory.

A few Lions had notable performances in Saturday's game. Gianmarco Luciani and Josiah Riley tied for most Lions points scored at 17 each. Riley and Brandon Ramirez led the team in rebounds with seven each.

Outstanding performances on the Marauders' side came from David McCulloch with 22 points, and Andre Toic led in rebounds with nine.

The Lions now have a 2-1 season record, and the Marauders have a 1-2 record for the season.
The Lions will return to the Tait McKenzie Centre on Saturday, Nov. 24 for 8pm tip-off against the Western Mustangs. Until then, they will be travelling to Guelph, Algoma, Laurier and Waterloo.
