Game Recap: Women's Hockey |

LIONS BLANKED BY GAELS IN ANNUAL ROAR FOR A CURE GAME

The York University Lions women's hockey team was defeated by a score of 3-0 by the visiting Queen's Gaels on Saturday afternoon in the team's annual Roar for a Cure game to raise money for the Canadian Cancer Society.

The Lions dominated play for much of the contest and outshot the Gaels 25-12 but were repeatedly thwarted by Queen's goaltender Stephanie Pascal, who stopped all 25 shots she faced to earn the shutout in net.

Thanks to Pascal's strong play between the pipes, the Gaels essentially put the game away midway through the first period when they scored twice in a one-minute span for a 2-0 lead. Clare McKellar found the back of the net at 9:38, and exactly 60 seconds later Danelle Bishoff did the same.

Those were the only two goals York rookie goalie Lauren Dubie (London, Ont.) would allow for the rest of the game. Queen's added another marker late in the third period with York's net empty, scored by Hailey Wilson.

The Lions fell to 3-2-12-4 with the loss and remain 12th in the OUA standings with 17 points. The Gaels, meanwhile, are now 9-4-8-1 on the year and moved into fourth place in the conference.

The Lions will play their final game of the 2016-17 campaign on Sunday afternoon when they welcome the last-place Laurier Golden Hawks to Canlan Ice Sports. Puck drop is set for 2pm.
