The York University Lions men's soccer team took on the visiting Brock Badgers Sunday at Alumni Field looking to extend a 15-game winning streak against their opponents and they did just that, winning 3-0 for their fifth win of the season.
Â
The pressure was on for the Lions' men, as their game immediately followed the women's team's first win of the season. The Lions rise to a 5-2 season record, while the Badgers' season record drops to 2-4-1.
Â
The Lions wasted no time asserting their dominance on their home field.
Dylan Carreiro (Brampton, Ont.) kick-started the game with a goal, speeding past Brock's defenders in the second minute of play. In the 28
th minute of play,
Jonathan Lao (Unionville, Ont.) scored on a free kick just outside the 18-yard box.
Â
After a bit of a dry spell, third-year midfielder
Eddie Lay (Courtice, Ont.) scored in the 67
th minute. Lay was assisted by
De Vante Walker (Brampton, Ont.).
Â
The Badgers made a last-ditch effort to bring their team back into a winning position, but ultimately it wasn't enough, and the Lions walked away with a 3-0 victory.
Â
Lions goalkeeper
Mike Argyrides (Richmond Hill, Ont.) made three saves. Outstanding performances by his defensive team, led by
Daniel Gogarty (Scarborough, Ont.), made Argyrides' job much easier.
Â
The Lions head to Guelph, Ont., on Sept. 20 to take on the Gryphons and will return home to Alumni Field on Sept. 30 to face the Waterloo Warriors.
