Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

LIONS UPSET NO. 5 GUELPH ON CAVALLINI'S SIXTH GOAL

The York University Lions men's soccer team avenged its loss to the No. 5 Guelph Gryphons from earlier this season on Wednesday afternoon with a 1-0 victory over their division rivals in Guelph, Ont.

The Lions had lost their last two meetings with the Gryphons, including last year's OUA final, but they were the better team on Wednesday and will return home with the important three points that move them into second place in the OUA West standings with a 6-2 record. Guelph continues to lead with a 6-2-1 mark.

The lone goal in the game came in the 35th minute off the foot of Cristian Cavallini, who netted his team-leading sixth tally and is now tied for fourth in OUA goals. Steve Kloutsouniotis earned the assist on the play, his third assist and seventh point on the season to tie for sixth in OUA scoring.

Eddie Lay had a chance to make it 2-0 in the 64th minute but his shot hit the crossbar. In the end, it didn't matter as rookie goalkeeper Mike Argyrides made one save for his sixth win in as many starts this season, including four cleansheets. Guelph netminder Simon Norgrove made two saves in the loss.

The Lions will be back in action on Friday night when they head to Waterloo, Ont., to face the Warriors in a match beginning at 8pm.
