LIONS TAKE FIRST SET BUT ARE DEFEATED IN FOUR BY VARSITY BLUES

The York University Lions women's volleyball team took on the University of Toronto Varsity Blues Sunday afternoon. The match went into a tough fourth set that saw the Lions fall to the Varsity Blues 3-1.

The Lions narrowly won the first set by two points, finishing 25-23.

The second set did not go as well for the Lions, and the Varsity Blues reached the game-ending 25th point well ahead of the Lions. The set ended 25-18, and the match score went up to 1-1.

The Lions stayed closer in score to the Varsity Blues in the third set, falling just short of their opponent 25-21.

In the fourth set, the Lions had the chance to tie up the match score and potentially take the match into a fifth. However, the Lions were only able to earn five points in this set and fell to the Varsity Blues 25-5. The Varsity Blues walked off the court winning the match 3-1.

Earning the bulk of the points for the Lions were Sarah Williams with nine (seven kills, two service aces), Melissa Smillie with eight (seven kills, one service ace) and Kayla Clennon also with eight (seven kills, one service ace). Sabah Kalim led the team in digs with a whopping 32.

On the Varsity Blues' side, Alina Doormann and Jenna Woock led the team in points with 17.5 points each. Rayn Perry had a team-high 15 digs.

The Lions sit in fourth place in the OUA East Division with a 7-4 regular season record, two points back of the Varsity Blues, who improved to 8-3.

The Lions will look to add some more wins when they hit the road next weekend. They will pay a visit to the Windsor Lancers on Saturday and the Western Mustangs on Sunday. The Lions will return to the Tait McKenzie Centre on Friday, Feb. 9, where they will take on the Brock Badgers. Match time is 6pm.
