Game Recap: Women's Hockey |

LIONS COME FROM BEHIND TO EARN POINT AGAINST BADGERS

The second hockey match-up of the weekend between the York University Lions and Brock Badgers took place at Canlan Ice Sports on Saturday night with the women hitting the ice, and the visiting Badgers again took the win, this time by a 3-2 score in a shootout.

The Lions erased a two-goal deficit in the game to earn the single point in their first game of the 2018 portion of their schedule.

The Badgers scored two goals in the first period, both in the midst of chaos in front of the Lions' net. Their first goal was scored at 5:32 by Amanda Ieradi. She was assisted by Rachel Rochat and Alex Finlayson. Kimberly Brown scored the Badgers' second goal on a power play 10 minutes later after just barely getting it over the shoulder of Lions goaltender Lauren Dubie. Kaitlyn Colonna had the assist on this goal, and the Lions trailed 2-0 at the end of the first period.

The Lions were able to match the Badgers' aggression in the second and their efforts resulted in their first goal of the game from rookie Tayler Murphy. She was assisted by Jenna Gray and Erin Locke. The Badgers had less of a lead at the end of the second period, at 2-1.

Christina Chin tied the game with a goal early in the third period. She was assisted by Cynthia St-Cyr. The game was still tied 2-2 at the end of the third, and both teams had to brace themselves for an overtime showdown.

Both teams came incredibly close to scoring on many occasions during the five minutes of overtime, but goalies Dubie and Jensen Murphy did an equally good job blocking all shots that came their way.

In the shootout that closed out the game, Brock's Kat Whiteye scored on their second attempt, which won the Badgers the game after the Lions could not get the puck past Murphy.
Despite the outcome of the game, the Lions did show a strong offence, outshooting their opponent 39-27.

The Lions now have a 4-0-8-2 season record with 10 games remaining on the schedule. The third-place Badgers are 7-3-3-2 after the win.

The Lions will now embark on short tour of Ontario as they will spend the next four games on the road and make stops in Guelph, Windsor, North Bay and Sudbury. The Lions will be back at Canlan Ice Sports on Saturday, Jan. 27 at 2pm to take on the UOIT Ridgebacks.
