YORK DROPS FIRST GAME OF THE YEAR 5-3 TO BROCK ON FRIDAY NIGHT

York University's men's hockey team lost their first game of the season on the road against the Brock Badgers on Friday Oct,12 by a score of 5-3.
 
Brock forward Cosimo Fontana scored the first goal of the game at 3:37 of the first period. York's Dexter Bricker responded with an assist by Josh Lafrance and Stefano Pezzata six minutes later to even the score.
 
Brock scored two more times in the first period on goals by Frank Pucci and Ryan Burton, taking the lead 3-1 against York.
 
In the second period of the game, the Lions were the sole scorers, with a goal by Daniel Nikandrov which was assisted by Nic Coric and Justin Malolino. In the second period York was able to fire 11 shots against the Badgers' net and the Badgers fired 10 at York. The Lions were inching closer to Brock as they were one goal behind the Badgers going into the final frame.
 
In the third period, Brock extended their lead to 4-2 at 8:02 as Burton scored his second goal of the game. York swiftly responded with a goal from Nic Coric, for his second point of the night.. This time Coric was assisted by Dexter Bricker, who scored the first goal for the Lions, and Josh Lafrance who secured his second assist of the game.
 
The Badgers were able to score once more against York into an empty net, giving them a 5-3 win against the Lions.
 
The Lions have a quick turnaround and will be playing the Guelph Gryphons on Saturday Oct. 13 at Canlan Ice Sports.
