The York University women's rugby team hosted the Trent Excalibur on Saturday afternoon at Alumni Field in an exciting game that ended in a 36-24 win for the Lions.
The Lions were able to get on the scoreboard first less than two minutes into the game, as
Megan Pakulis faked a pass and ran by the Excalibur defence to score a try. The Excalibur responded in the 9
th minute scoring a try to tie the game at 5-5. The Lions were able to keep possession allowing
Asia Hogan-Rochester to score her first try in the 17
th minute, followed by
Natasha Naismith with the conversion.

Hogan-Rochester was able to match the speed of the Excalibur runner and make a brilliant tackle in the 25
th minute to gain possession of the ball and make an offensive run. However, a minute later, Maddy Howels was able to beat the Lions defence and score a try. Trent was unable to score the conversion allowing the Lions to keep their lead.
Bernice Ediagbonya scored a try in the 30
th minute, followed by Naismith with the conversion to increase the Lions lead 19-10 at the half.

The Excalibur started the second half strong, scoring two tries and two conversions to lead the score 24-19. The Lions were quick to meet Trent's tempo and made some aggressive, much needed tackles looking to regain possession and make their way up the field. Naismith made a brilliant pass to assist
Brittany Ediagbonya in the 55
th minute who scored the try to tie up the game 24-24.

Pakulis made some brilliant tackles to stop the Excalibur from getting forward, which eventually led Hogan-Rochester to score her second try of the game and give the Lions back the lead. The Lions stayed strong defensively as Trent continued to press ten yards from the end zone for over ten minutes. The ball was reclaimed by the Lions with less than five minutes to play. The Lions had the fans on their feet as Hogan-Rochester made a 40-yard run to score her third try in the last minute of the match. Naismith was able to score the conversion to conclude the exiting finish at 36-24.

With the win, the Lions will host the consolation final next weekend at Alumni Field against the Western Mustangs. The schedule will be announced soon.
