The York University women's rugby team were defeated 45-31 by the Western Mustangs in the consolation final on Saturday afternoon at Alumni Field.

Fourth-year veteran, Veronica Harrigan led the Mustangs in the first twenty minutes scoring three tries, one at the 4
th minute, 13
th minute and 17
th minute. Her teammate, Lexi Smith was also able to score two conversions and the Mustangs jumped out to a 19-0 lead.

The following twenty minutes, the Lions dominated the Mustangs scoring three tries which tied the game. At the 21
st minute,
Megan Pakulis plowed herself through the Mustangs' defence to score the first try for the Lions.
Natasha Naismith was able to score the conversion off of Pakulis' try. A few minutes later,
Michela Stratton made an impressive tackle that led Pakulis to retrieve the ball in the Lions' zone and make a 60-yard run to score her second try. At the 32
nd minute,
Asia Hogan-Rochester ran 80 yards and cruised her way around the Mustangs' defence to score a try. Naismith scored the conversion tying the game 19-19.

Just before the halftime mark, in the 38
th minute, Western's Harrigan scored her fourth try and was awarded a two-point penalty which allowed the Mustangs to lead 26-19.

Harrigan was able to score three more tries for the Mustangs in the second half, in the 54
th, 61
st, and 67
th minute. Smith scored two more conversions off of Harrigans' tries. The Lions' fight continued to increase and during the 57
th minute, Hogan-Rochester made a brilliant run and passed the ball off to
Kiara Maclean who had a clear lane to score her first try of the game. Naismith scored the conversion and the Lions trailed 33-26 until Harrigan's last two tries of the game.

Pakulis scored her third and last try for the Lions in the 74
th minute which brought the score to 45-31 for the Mustangs. The Lions pressured the Mustangs in the final minutes, however were unable to score any more points.Â

With the loss the Lions will play out of the OUA Russell Division next season, while the Mustangs will remain in the OUA Shiels Division.
