The York University men's hockey team took home a big victory over the UOIT Ridgebacks with a 6-1 win on Saturday evening in a road win at Campus Ice Centre.
 
Six Lions were able to get a shot passed the Ridgebacks' goalie, Brendan O'Neill, even though the team put up less shots with 27 compared to the Ridgebacks' 30. Mack Shields had an impressive night saving 29 of the 30 Ridgeback shots.
 
The Lions controlled the first two periods at UOIT's home ice and scored four goals to take a 4-0 lead by the third period. In the first period, the Lions were able to score two goals in under a minute of each other, at 13:24 with a goal by Scott Feser assisted by Jack Goranson and Alex Mowbray and again at 14:13 with a goal by Ben Verrall assisted by Reid Jackman and Bradley Forrest.
 
During the second period, Nik Coric who was assisted by Daniel Nikandrov and Justin Maiolino, was able to get another goal for the Lions early on at 4:27. Coric and Nikandrov then assisted Maiolino at 10:57 to increase the Lions' lead.
 
The Ridgebacks were able to get their first goal in the third period at 6:29 with a goal by Malik Johnson assisted by Tyler Mayea and Anthony Latina. Just 30 seconds later, the Lions responded when Feser and Morgan Messenger found Reid Jackman who got another shot passed O'Niell. Nick Zottl, who was assisted by Jackman and Feser, scored the last and final goal to cap the game at 6-1 for the Lions.  
 
The Lions are scheduled to play a double header at home against the Laurentian Voyageurs on Oct. 26 and Oct. 27 at Canlan Ice Sports. Both games are set to start at 7pm.
