The York Lions head into the OUA playoffs with an undefeated record and seven game winning streak as they beat the Western Mustangs to a 2-1 win in London, Ont. at the Mustang Field.
York's Chris Jacovou scored an unassisted goal just three minutes into the first half to give the Lions a 1-0 lead, on his fifth goal of the regular season.
Soon after, midfielder Christian Cavallini shot twice against the Mustangs, however, both shots hit Western's goalpost. York's
Vaughan Bianchi also attempted to score against the Mustangs, but his shot went too high above Western's net.
In the 17th minute, the Mustangs were able to secure a goal against the Lions when Western's Nimi Adeyemo found the back of York's net.
The Lions and the Mustangs were tied 1-1 going into half-time, with the Lions leading in with eight shots compared to Western's two.
Neither team scored for most of the second half, until York's Jon Alec Toromoreno Duenas put an end to the draught as he scored his second goal of the season at the 65th minute with an assist by
Anwar Sawi.
The remainder of the half saw three shots fired by Western, one of them saved by York's goalkeeper
Mike Argyrides who picked up his 13
th win of the year.
The Lions have gone through the regular season undefeated with a 13-0-3 record. They will have a first-round bye in the playoffs and will play next weekend against an opponent to be determined.
