The York University women's hockey team were defeated in a close 1-0 game to the Queen's Gaels on Friday evening in Kingston, Ont.

Although the Lions had two shots more with 21 compared to the Gaels' 19, the Gaels were able to capitalize on one of their shots to win a 1-0 game.

The first and only goal came in the first period at 10:03 by Katrina Manoukarakis assisted by Hailey Wilson and Caroline DeBruin. The Lions were able to get eight more shots in the second period and seven in the third period but were unable to find the back of the Gaels' net to tie the game.

Lauren Dubie made 18 saves for the Lions in the loss, while Makenzy Arsenault picked up the shutout for the Gaels with 21 saves. The Lions now have an even 1-1 record on the season after winning 2-1 against the Waterloo Warriors on opening night.

The Lions will be on the road again Oct. 27 travelling to Oshawa, Ont. to face the UOIT Ridgebacks. The game is scheduled to start at 3:30pm.
