The York University Lions women's hockey team played the Guelph Gryphons at Canlan Ice Sports on Wednesday, Oct. 31 and lost 4-0 in their fourth game of the regular season.

Guelph got off to a strong start as they scored two goals within the first four minutes of the first period. It was Guelph's Gabrielle Smith who scored the opening goal of the game and minutes later, the Gryphons' Miranda Lantz secured the second goal for the visiting team, which was assisted by forward Ashlee Lawrence.

The Gryphons' third goal also came in the first period of the game at 11:27 by Guelph's Sydney Davison. Although Guelph was off to a good offensive start, the Lions' defense was able to hold the Gryphons goalless for the rest of the period.

In the second period, York's offense attacked the Gryphons' net with several scoring attempts, however, the Lions were unable to find the back of the Gryphons' net. York was able to get in 13 shots on goal against Guelph, however, they were all saved by the Gryphons' goalkeeper Valerie Lamenta.

The Gryphons continued to lead 3-0 as there was no scoring in the second period. York's goalkeeper
Lauren Dubie kept the Lions' net secure as she saved five shots by Guelph.

In the dying minutes of the third period York removed Dubie and added a sixth player in an attempt to score a goal, however, the Lions were unable to add a goal to the scoreboard. Guelph, however, was able to score a fourth goal in York's empty net.

Dubie made 25 saves in loss while Lamenta picked up the shutout for the Gryphons with 28 saves.

The Lions will be playing the University of Toronto Blues on Saturday Nov. 3 at 2pm at Canlan Ice Sports for the next game.
