The York University Lions women's hockey team lost 5-3 to the University of Toronto (U of T) Varsity Blues on Saturday, Nov. 4 at Canlan Ice Sports.
The Blues were the first to score between the two Toronto-based teams. It took a little over 15 minutes for the first goal of the game to make its appearance on the scoreboard, when Blues forward Kassie Roache scored the first goal for the visiting team in the first period of the game.
Soon after the Blues' first goal, forward Lauren Straatman scored the second goal for the Blues at 15:57 in the first period, which saw a total of 11 shots on goal from U of T and eight shots on goal from the Lions who were unable to find the net during the opening period.
After the first period, the Blues led 2-0, however the Lions started the second period by scoring two goals of their own against the Blues in just under 12 minutes. The first goal came from forward
Kelsey McHolm, which was assisted by
Steffei Samuel and second came from second-year forward
Kara Washer who was assisted by
Tayler Murphy and
Avery Reeves.
The Lions were tied 2-2 with the Varsity Blues momentarily, until Toronto regained the lead after Louie Bieman and Jessica Robichaud scored at 14:03 and 16:28 to regain their early lead.
In the third period, York responded half way through the period when
Leah Hibbert scored the third and final goal for the Lions at 11:07, bringing York one goal closer to their opponents. But eight minutes after York's goal, U of T responded with their final goal at 19:20, finalizing their 5-3 win over the home team.

Lauren Dubie made 20 saves in the loss while Toronto netminder stopped 16 of 19 Lions shots in the win.
The Lions will play next against the Windsor Lancers on Friday, Nov. 11 at Canlan Ice Sports at 7pm.
