YORK COMPLETES SWEEP AGAINST ALGOMA WITH 7-1 WIN

The York University men's soccer team beat the Algoma Thunderbirds 7-1 in their second game against them this weekend in Sault Saint Marie, Ont.

It almost took the Lions the entire duration of the first half to score. However, once they started, they didn't stop.

Algoma's midfielder and forward Naif Hadi recorded their first goal of the game in the 7th minute. The Lions who had eight unsuccessful scoring attempts against the Thunderbirds in the half managed to find the back of the net within the last two minutes. Omar Marzouk scored the first goal of the game for the Lions 37 minutes after the Thunderbirds' goal, making it Marzouk's 12th goal in the 12 games he has played so far in the regular season.

One minute later, York saw their second goal of the game scored by forward Chris Jacavou, which was assisted by defenseman Daniel Gogarty, giving the Lions the lead against the Thunderbirds going into the second half.

Coming back from the half, the Lions continued their scoring-streak. Midfielder Steve Kloutsouniotis scored at the 57th minute of the game, a goal assisted by Marzouk. Following Kloutsouniotis' goal, Lions' defenseman Gabriel Jodhan scored his first goal of the season at the 62nd minute of the game, giving the Lions a 4-1 lead

With less than 30 minutes remaining in the game, the Lions managed to score three more times against the Thunderbirds. Two of those goals were scored by second year midfielder Vaughan Bianchi who recorded the first two goals of his OUA career.

Both goals, which were unassisted, were sandwiched between Steve Kloutsouniotis' second goal of the game, also assisted by Bianchi who scored his second goal at the 88th minute of the game, making the final 7-1.

The Lions return home to Alumni Field for their final home game of the regular season on Oct. 14 at 3pm.
