The York University men's hockey team won their fourth straight game with a 4-3 victory over the Laurier Golden Hawks on Saturday evening at Canlan Ice Sports.
Â
The Lions had multiple goal scoring chances in the first period with shots by
Reid Jackman and
Ben Verrall to test the Laurier goaltender. It wasn't until the Lions went on the only power play of the period that they were able to capitalize and take a 1-0 lead on the Golden Hawks. At 8:41, in front of a crowded net,
Bradley Forrest found
Scott Feser who shot the puck perfectly into the bottom right corner. The Golden Hawks had a couple chances, however,
Alex Fotinos who started in net for the Lions, remained solid.
Â
Just 43 seconds into the second period, it was
Josh LaFrance assisted by Forrest who scored to add the the Lions' lead. The Golden Hawks really pressured the Lions as they seemed to be all over them early in the period which eventually earned them their first goal of the game at 8:32 scored by James Thomson.
Â
The Lions were quick to respond and less than two minutes later,
Stefano Pezzetta who was assisted by Forrest, scored on a bouncing puck that took a deflection and landed in the net. The Golden Hawks managed to tie the game after Laurier's Brandon Robinson scored two goals, one at 12:12 and another on a power play at 14:02. The second period ended with the game tied at 3-3.
Â
The Lions entered the third period looking to get a goal to earn back the lead. Forrest had a huge chance on a Lions power play just six minutes into the period when he took a slap shot that deflected off the post. As soon as the power play ended, it was
Nik Coric assisted by
Jeremy Lucchini who gave the Lions back the lead after scoring off a slap shot right in front of the Laurier's goal. Although the Golden Hawks pressured the Lions in the last two minutes of play, the Lions came on top to win the game 4-3.
Â
The Lions will be on the road Nov. 22 when they take on the Guelph Gryphons in Guelph, Ont. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:30pm.
