YORK DEFEATED 3-1 ON ROAD BY QUEEN'S

The York University men's volleyball team were defeated 3-1 by the Queen's Gaels despite tying the game 1-1 in the second set on Saturday afternoon at Athletics and Recreation Centre in Kingston, Ont.

The Lions who sit in fifth-place in the OUA East Division, played the Gaels who are leading the pack in first place and despite the loss, put up a good game taking the Gaels to four sets. The Gaels earned an early 1-0 lead on the Lions after taking the first set winning by a score of 25-20.

The Lions kept it close throughout the start of the second set as the Gaels only led by a couple points. The Gaels picked up their biggest lead when they led the Lions 14-10, however the Lions managed to score five straight points to take the lead 15-14. The rest of the set the Lions and Gaels each exchanged points keeping the game tight. With a close score of 24-23 for the Lions, it was the Lions who earned the final point to take the set 25-23.

The third set was important as both the Lions and the Gaels were looking to take the set to secure the 2-1 lead. Midway through the set the Gaels led the Lions 16-14. Similar to the second set, the game was kept close by both teams. The Gaels earned the set point on a service ace and took the set 25-20.

The Lions needed a win in the fourth set to tie the game, however it was the Gaels who came on top to win the game. The Gaels earned a five-point lead with a score of 13-8, but after four consecutive points the Lions once again brought it to a one-point game. Despite an extremely strong effort by the Lions, it was the Gaels who earned the final point of the game winning 25-23.

York's Andrew Tauhid had a big game for the Lions totaling 22 points, 20 kills and five digs. Andrew Shotbolt earned himself 12.5 points, 10 kills and five digs. The Gaels' points leader was Zac Hutcheson with 23.5 pints, 19 kills and six digs.
